Giving attention and value to the gift economy as practiced by mothers,
indigenous peoples, activists and volunteers and to the logic it embodies,
allows us to understand it not as the defective victim of exploitation
but propose it as an alternative to Patriarchal Capitalism, an alternative
which continues to exist in spite of the misogyny, racism and classism
that motivate the present system. Refocusing to validate the worldview
of the gift rather than the worldview of the market can provide the values
and the link among movements that can help us to create a peaceful and
abundant world in this time of dire poverty, war and environmental degradation,
caused by violent clashes within and among market-based capitalist patriarchies.
The Conference "A Radically Different World View is Possible" will bring
many national and international women to discuss this alternative paradigm.
